New plants! 05/18/23

Not only did we receive aquarium plants this week, but we now have 🌱POND PLANTS🌱, which will be pictured in tomorrow’s post! We have everything to help you aquascape the tank of your dreams. 👩‍🌾 A common misconception is that you NEED a C02 tank to keep plants but believe it not you don’t! ❌ It can be as simple as a light mineral dose. Experts say it’s too early to start planting a garden, but there is never a bad time to add plants to your aquarium. We have lots of new plants (maybe too many), some new to Forest Lake Pets. Homlomena Sekadau South is a rare plant that looks like a Crypt but grows like Bucephalandra. Lagenandra Meeboldii Red is much the same with broad dark red leaves. If you’re looking for something with quicker growth, we’ve got you covered; Pogostemon, Parrot Feather and Rotala are great stem plants that keep on growing.

It might not feel like Spring but it’s heating up with this new shipment! Some stem plants don’t mind if they are not in substrate. Anacharis Najans (Guppy Grass) is a great beginner plant that can be planted or let float around the tank for a prefect fry bed. Water Sprite grows large broad leaves with hanging roots when let to roam the surface of your aquarium. Looking to up your planted tank game? Try some of our new intermediate or advanced plants. Hygrophila Willow is a beautiful stem pant that grows and grows with full light green leaves. If you’re looking for something shorter check out Staurogyne Repens. This plant may be hard to pronounce but boy does it look good once it’s established in a tank. Don’t worry if these plants melt back, just like humans we need time to adjust to new environments.

We are green with envy this week or maybe it’s the luck of the Irish. The Plant Department is filled with lots of green easy to advanced pants including Water Sprite. As an easy, frilly fern like plant that you can float for broader leaves. Or plant it to keep a great spot for fish to take a break in. Parrot Feather is a fast growing stem plant that prefers a little more nutrients and light for full feathery leaves.

Guess what, we’ve got more swords and they’re even bigger than before. Tall thank? No problem, the Amazon and Oriental Swords are almost too tall for our tanks and would look better in yours. Jungle, Italian and Contortion Vallisneria are great for hiding equipment in your tanks and fish love to swim through like 60s beaded curtains.

We have enough swords for an army… of fish tanks! Amazon Swords are an easy way to fill a large space in any aquarium. Want something with a little more pizzazz? Check out the Sparkle Sword that features lush green leaves with some light green to yellow speckles. Just remember, swords are heavy root feeders. Creating depth in an aquarium is easy to do with plants, especially with what came in this week! With our large Anubias you can create a nice backdrop to some smaller eye catching Crypts or more Anubias. If your looking for splashes of green, Buceaphalandra is great for attaching to rock, wood or other decorations. There’s always lots to explore in the Plant Department. Mosses and Ferns are a great accent to any tank. With a dab of super glue or some string they can turn any decoration into a fuzzy green array of aquatic life. Fissidens Nobilis Moss is one we are always exited to receive. It’s a cooler water, slow growing moss unlike any other. For a splash of color in terrariums or tanks the Cardinal Plant is a go-to with a bright purple stem and under leaf. Be sure to check out the pre-potted plants too!
